Why check your Credit Report?

An adverse credit report can seriously affect your chance of getting the best deals from lenders, it can even lead to outright rejection. A bad, or out of date, credit history gives the impression that you are either unwilling or unable to make repayments on loans.

There are a number of reasons that your credit report could show a bad history that you may be completely unaware of. As an example if you had a partner with whom you shared a joint account then their financial behaviour may still be affecting your credit rating. The report will not show their history but will show your association with that person. It may be that shopping around for loans or other financial products.

You may have shopped around for the best offer, but each of your enquiries have registered as separate applications. These may now make lenders think that you are desperate for money, have loans you cannot pay or maybe that this is an attempt at fraud.

Your credit report could show that there are applications and accounts that you knew nothing about and you may have been the victim of identity fraud.
